Here's a new thing for inDundee.co.uk: featured gig venues! I thought it would be great to feature local live music venues on here - get the story behind them and hear more about them from the people who know them...

If there's enough interest, we'll feature a different venue every couple of months, then have a vote later in the year - get the "punter's choice". At the very least, you'll have some mighty fine recommendations for experiencing live music in Dundee. If you have suggestions for future features, let us know

First up: The Arctic Bar - recently coming alive as a gig venue with plenty gigs already under their belt and many more to come.

We contacted some local bands for their thoughts about The Arctic, plus I asked Wayne Dudley of DD Promotions a few questions:

2007 in Dundee: local bands who have come and gone

I've been doing some end-of-year tidying round the music pages... here's a few bands who ceased business or changed names in the previous 12 months - add your own in the comments... also check our events archive for a pretty comprehensive list of gigs...

• The Hoffs disbanded this year


• Serotonin formed then split this year


• Dirty Wee Middens played their final gig at halloween


• Clockwork guns split after a few gigs in 07


• The Unknown were reborn as The Goodnights


• Audiofever are now The Fever


• Seems like the future of The Regulations is uncertain...

It's not all gloom and doom though: for example, The Brogues burst onto the scene this year, and are currently burning bright alongside a host of bands named "The ..." - and the live scene looks as live as ever.
